Open my computer by clicking Start «My computer.
Check whether CD/DVD drive is listed in My computer.
If it is not listed, follow the below steps to open device manager.
1. Click Start and then select 'Run'.
2. Type 'devmgmt.msc' without quotes and click Ok.

Now check for any yellow exclamatory marks near CD/DVD rom drives drive in device manager.
If there is yellow exclamatory mark,
Click (+) sign near CD/DVD rom drives in device manager and right click on the device listed and select uninstall.
Restart the Notebook(desktop).

Now follow the below steps to Clear the registry filters.
1. Click Start , and enter "regedit" into the Start Search field.
The registry editor window appears.
2. Select Computer in the main window.
3. Click the plus sign ( +) next to the following items in the list:
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
4. Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. Make sure you have selected this exact key name.
5. Select the LowerFilters value and press the Delete key. Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes.
6. If an UpperFilters value is also listed, select UpperFilters in the right window and press the Delete key.
7. Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes.
8. Delete all other UpperFilter and LowerFilter values within the 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 key if they exist.
9. Close the registry editor and restart the Notebook.

Restart the Notebook(desktop).
If the Cd/Dvd drive is not listed in device manager, try removing and reinserting the drive by checking the manual of the Notebook(If it is desktop, remove and reinsert the power and data plugs).
